For the second time in less than a week, birds triggered a light pole fire in Peter Pan Park.
Emporia firefighters went to the park shortly after 8:30 pm Sunday after the fire was reported. Firefighters say the situation was identical to one Wednesday night — birds built a nest inside the light canopy and the nest caught fire, burning a hole in the canopy.
Both fires were quickly extinguished. The nests were destroyed in both incidents.
Separately, firefighters were called to Four Seasons Apartments, 1927 West 24th, after a report of a transformer fire. A crew investigated, eventually being pointed to a possible incident in a laundry room. They found no sign of fire.
