Cleanup is over at Teter Rock after a recent round of vandalism.
The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were informed Friday about a graffiti incident from the Fourth of July, including several obscenities. An investigation followed and the suspects were identified.
Deputies then talked with property co-owners about potential courses of action, but the co-owners decided against pressing charges. Instead, those responsible spent about 8.5 hours cleaning up the damage.
Names are not being released because no formal charges were filed. The number of suspects allegedly involved is also not being released.
The original Teter Rock monument was erected in the 1870s or 1880s by James Teter and lasted into the 1920s, according to online information provided by MRH Insurance Group. The monument was rebuilt in the 1950s. Teter Rock has been open to the public throughout its history and will be reopened.
