Fourth of July festivities came to an end with the annual Emporia Fireworks display Thursday evening.
Hundreds filled Welch Stadium at the Emporia State University campus, and many many more watched all across town as the bright lights and thundering booms filled the night.
This year’s show saw a change from year’s past as the Flint Hills Optimists decided not to organize the show as has been the case for over a decade. The show was put on by the City of Emporia through its new partnership with volunteers led by Bernie Toso.
