The Cleveland Indians out scored the Kansas City Royals 9-5 Tuesday night.
Cleveland scored 5 runs in the 3rd inning to take a lead they would not give up.
The Indians scored the 5 runs after Jorge Soler hit a 451 foot home run to tie the game at 1 in the 2nd inning.
Royals tried to overcome a 7-1 deficit scoring 2 runs in the 5th on a Adalberto Mondesi home run and 2 runs in the 7th inning to make it a 7-5 score but could get no closer.
The Royals and Indians play again Wednesday night Danny Duffy will take the mound for the Royals with first pitch set for 7:15.
The Royals activated Adalberto Mondesi from the 10-day injured list yesterday. Mondesi, who leads the Majors with eight triples and 27 stolen bases, had been sidelined since June 20 with a groin strain.
Additionally, Kansas City recalled right-hander Jake Newberry from Triple-A Omaha and optioned infielder Humberto Arteaga and righty Scott Barlow to Omaha.
The Kansas City Royals announced that infielder/outfielder Whit Merrifield and right-handed pitcher Ian Kennedy have been named Royals Player and Pitcher for the month of June.
Merrifield was named an American League All-Star for the first time on Sunday, and will represent the Royals at the All-Star Game in Cleveland on July 9. He led the Royals and finished third in the American League with 36 hits in June.
Merrifield batted .310 with four home runs and 14 RBI, including a hit in 23 of 27 games.
Kennedy recorded a 0.96 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 10 appearances last month. He posted eight saves in as many chances.
