The Emporia Junior American Legion baseball team swept Ottawa in a doubleheader Monday night.
The Post 5 Juniors won the first game 13-3 in 4 innings.
Emporia Scored 9 runs in the 2nd inning to take control. John Pringle scored 3 runs. Vance Kinsey was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Bobby Trujillo scored 2 runs.
Aaron Ross was the winning pitcher, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits with 3 strikeouts.
Post 5 walked off with a 12-11 win over Ottawa in the 2nd game. Emporia led 7-4 after 2 innings and held a 10-4 lead after 3 innings. Ottawa rallied with 5 runs in the 5th and tied the game in the game in the 7th. Cam Geitz to lead off the 7th inning and scored the winning run on a John Pringle single.
The Post 5 Juniors scored a combined 25 runs in the doubleheader. Coach Cory Shovick said that was encouraging.
The Post 5 Juniors are now 12-13 with 1 doubleheader to play before the zone tournament. The Juniors play at Garnett next Monday.
Tuesday the Emporia Senior American Legion baseball team hosts Newton in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 6pm at Sodens Grove.
The Post 5 Seniors take a 25-1 record into the doubleheader.
