Now that heavy rainfall has subsided, for the time being, Emporia residents are asked to break out their lawn mowers and make sure their yards are well kept.
Emporia Fire Marshall Reason Bradford reminds Emporia residents mow orders are being issued for anyone who receives a tall grass or weed complaint on their property. Tallgrass complaints are issued for any property where the grass has grown over 12 inches tall. Bradford says any resident may call in to report a tall grass or weed complaint.
Bradford explains the importance of the mow orders.
Once the complaint has been filed, EFD will issue the order at which time a sign is placed on the property. Following the issuance of the order residents have three days to address the issue, and if they do not then a certified letter is sent. Once the letter is received residents then have one week to correct the issue after which time — if the lawn has still not been mowed — EFD will send a contract mower at the cost of the landowner.
Those wishing to file a complaint are asked to call Fire Station 1 at 343-4230. For tall grass complaints, the grass must be over 12 inches.
