A local swimming area has been closed due to the discovery of bacteria.
The Army Corps of Engineers has announced the Melvern Lake Outlet Park Swimming Beach has been closed because of elevated levels of E. Coli bacteria in the water. The discovery was made earlier Friday and the beach will remain closed until further notice.
Corps engineers are planning to retest the water on Sunday to determine whether or not the beach can be reopened before Fourth of July weekend. The closure of the beach will have no effect on camping or any other activities.
