In case you may have noticed, downtown Emporia has been without parking enforcement recently. That changes Monday.
The Emporia Police Department says the city has reached a contract agreement with Jack’s Security to enforce parking regulations, including time limits, handicapped stalls, proper parking and parking with the traffic flow among others. Jack’s will have civilians monitoring parking and issuing tickets if necessary.
Strawder Security had the previous contract. City officials have not commented on what prompted the change. Terms of the new contract have not been released.
The Police Department says drivers are responsible for parking properly downtown and also ensuring their vehicle is not a hazard to other drivers, pedestrians or cyclists when they park. Tickets, fines and towing could result with violations.
