A year after former Emporian Mackenzie Payne was stabbed to death, a hearing that could determine the sentence for the man who allegedly killed her has been delayed.
Dylan Barber, originally from Herington, was on the Sedgwick County court docket for a hearing Friday, but that was continued to 10 am July 22.
Barber originally pleaded to first-degree murder in February after Payne, a 2013 Emporia High graduate, was stabbed to death in Wichita on June 27, 2018. As sentencing loomed in April, Barber moved to withdraw his plea.
The Sedgwick County Attorney’s Office says Barber’s motion to withdraw will be heard first. The ruling on that motion will determine whether Barber is sentenced.
