Jason Kipnis home run to lead off the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Cleveland Indians a 3-2 win over the Kansas City Royals Monday night.
Whit Merrifield hit a solo home run in the top of the 4 inning to give the Royals a 1-0 lead before a 2 hour 23 minute rain delay. Cleveland scored a run in the bottom of the 4th. The Tribe scored a run in the 6th to take a 2-1 lead. The Royals tied the game in the top of the 8th when Terrance Gore scored on a Nicky Lopez double. The game remained tied until the bottom of the 10th.
Whit Merrifield also singled in the 6th inning to become the first major leaguer of the season to collect 100 hits.
Royals and Cleveland play again Tuesday night with Glenn Sparkman on the mound for the Royals. First pitch is set for 6:10p. The game will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM.
Royals third baseman Hunter Dozier is one of 3 finalist to be the starting third baseman for the American League in the All-Star game after preliminary voting.
Voting will take place Wednesday beginning at 11am until Thursday at 3pm. All Starters will be announced Thursday night.
The All-Star game will be played July 9th in Cleveland.
