Planning is well underway for the United Way of the Flint Hills’ annual fundraising drive, and that effort has a campaign chair.
KVOE General Manager and Morning Show host Ron Thomas will lead the effort this year into early next year. Thomas calls it a privilege to serve the area in this role.
Thomas says he has been impressed with the United Way’s work to make sure donations help people in the area.
United Way Director Jami Reever says she has been impressed with Thomas’ commitment to the United Way and the Emporia community before he started serving on the United Way’s Board of Directors in 2015. Thomas now serves on the Executive Committee. He has also been active on several local and state boards, including the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and Kansas Association of Broadcasters, serving as board president for both organizations.
Thomas has worked continuously at KVOE since 1991 and became general manager in 2007. He and his wife, LaDonna, have been married 30 years.
The United Way’s annual campaign benefits 25 community partners and helps over 12,000 residents in Lyon County, all surrounding counties and Woodson County. Additional details about the upcoming drive, including the formal launch date and goal, will be announced later this year.
