An Emporia man faces a federal indictment of suspected identity theft.
Edison Javier Olivera de la Cruz, 23, was recently charged with single counts of misusing a Social Security number and aggravated identity theft. Authorities say he applied for a Kansas driver’s license using a stolen Social Security number in February.
If convicted, de la Cruz could spend up to five years in federal prison and pay up to $250,000 on the Social Security charge. He faces a mandatory two-year prison term on the identity theft charge.
