Fears of river-based flooding for eastern Lyon County have now evaporated.
Following recent rainfall this week, including over 2 inches of rain in west Emporia on Tuesday, the National Weather Service expected the Neosho River to go out of its banks at Neosho Rapids as early as Wednesday evening. However, the river rose from about 18.5 feet shortly before the heavy rain started to 19 feet, about three feet below flood stage, early Wednesday. The river is now below 19 feet and falling.
Rain totals from around the area include:
*KVOE studios: 1.9 inches
*East Emporia: 1.5 inches
*West Emporia: 2.1 inches
*Emporia Municipal Airport: 2.35 inches
*Allen: 1.1 inches

*Hartford: 1.4 inches
*John Redmond Reservoir: 1.25 inches
*Lebo: 1.9 inches
