Demolition has started at Emporia State’s Morse Complex.
Director of Residential Life Cass Coughlin tells KVOE News salvage work has completed as ESU eventually tears down Northeast Morse entirely and part of Central Morse. Coughlin says a lot of work is coming before the fall 2019 semester begins in mid-August.
ESU has a “demo cam” operational so people can track the progress. Click here for that feed.
Abigail Morse Hall will be renovated as part of this process. The current plan is different from the original, which called for the entire complex to be flattened and returned to either green space or other academic space. Coughlin credited President Allison Garrett and Vice President for Student Affairs Jim Williams for taking one more look at the master plan before deciding on the combination of renovation and demolition, saying the upgrades to Abigail Morse should honor the building’s history as Emporia State’s first residence hall while also helping current and future students.
