Portions of the KVOE listening area started Saturday with a severe weather threat. Much of the area is now ending Saturday and starting Sunday with a renewed risk.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood and Osage counties in a severe thunderstorm watch until 4 am Sunday. Hail up to 2 inches in diameter and wind gusts up to 70 mph are possible with the strongest storms. Brief heavy rain and isolated flash flooding are also possible.
This activity follows more isolated storm coverage early Saturday as a cluster of storms pushed across Chase, Lyon, Coffey and Osage counties before fizzling. Before it did, the cluster caused enough damage to ultimately cancel the Symphony in the Flint Hills annual concert near Bazaar.
Thunderstorms are possible Sunday, but the marginal risk potential has been eliminated.
