Community theatre holds first play in five years.
We are the Emporia Arts Council Theatre, or WEACT, held their first live performance at Peter Pan Park Saturday evening. The group made their debut with a production of “Woogala Boolaga” directed by Tonya Starr.
The park was filled with excitement as friends and family members eagerly gathered around the boathouse for the show. This showing marked the first community-based theatre performance since 2014.
WEACT Director Tonya Starr speaks more about how they brought back community theatre.
The night was filled with joy as children acted, directed, and even had their own stage crew for the show to go on. This is just the beginning of what WEACT has to come.
Starr tells KVOE what else WEACT has in store in the near future.
For more information on WEACT, call the Arts Center at 343-6473 or find the group on Facebook. Photos from Saturday’s event are available with this story online at KVOE.com.
