With the recent warm and wet weather the KVOE listening area has experienced, it should come as no surprise that mosquitos and ticks populations may be heavier than usual.
Parasitic insects such as these provide a danger to public health and safety due to their tendencies to act as carriers for certain diseases like Lyme disease or the West Nile virus.
The Newman Regional Health Infection Preventionist, Ester Knobloch explains different things to do after exposure to tick-friendly environments.
Mosquitos can be deterred with similar methods, namely by using EPA registered insect repellant. Knobloch also says there are things that can be done outside to help prevent mosquitos from spawning.
