The Emporia Senior American Legion baseball team won their first two games in the Sam Ellis Classic Friday.
The Post 5 Seniors out scored Ottawa 8-3 in their 2nd game Friday night. Emporia jumped out to a 6-0 lead with 3 runs in the first inning, 2 runs in the 2nd and a run in the 4th. Ottawa scored all 3 runs in the 5th inning. Emporia answered with 2 runs in the 5th. Jace Stewart was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Riley Wagner drove in 2 runs and was the winning pitcher.
In Fridays first game the Emporia AAA out scored the Wichita Aviators 8-5. Hunter Grohs 3 run home run in the top of the 7th was the difference in that game.
Post 5 scored single runs in the 1st and 3rd innings to take a 2-0 lead. Wichita tied the game with 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. They added 3 runs in the 4th inning to take a 5-2 lead. Emporia tied the game with 3 runs in the 6th inning.
The Emporia Seniors wrap up pool play tonight with a game against Belle Plain. First pitch is set for 7pm at Sodens Grove.
