The Lyon County Commission is continuing work on the 2020 budget as four additional allocation requests came before commissioners during their weekly action session Thursday.
Among the requests, the Lyon County Fairboard is seeking $60,000 while the Lyon County Conservation District is seeking $30,000. Both of these requests are the same as previous years.
The remaining requests each saw changes from last year. Newman Regional Health is seeking $200,000 which is a $125,000 decrease from 2018.
According to Newman CEO Bob Wright, the decrease is being sought in order to accommodate the costs of other projects in the works for the county. Additionally, Crosswinds Counseling and Wellness is seeking $427,500 which is an increase of $37,500 more than the 2018 request of $390,000.
Commissioners plan to have the budget completed by August.
In other business, commissioners approved a resolution officially announcing Ryan Janzen as the new Lyon County Appraiser. Janzen replaces former County Appraiser Gary Stapp who retired at the end of May.
Janzen has been in the appraisal field for the past ten years beginning his career in Marion County.
Janzen credits Stapp for bringing him to Lyon County and mentoring him over the past few years. Janzen officially assumed his new duties Monday.
In addition to these items, commissioners approved a quote from TAPCO Safe Travel of $6,095 for a new cutter graphic FC8600 plotter for sign making. The Lyon County Commission will meet next Thursday at 8 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
