Emporia State baseball coach Seth Wheeler has announced the signing of 9 players for next year. That includes 4 high school players and 5 transfers.
8 of the 9 are Kansas natives or attended a Kansas Community College. Coach Wheeler says its a good start.
Coach Wheeler says he still has some spots to fill.
2019 Emporia State Baseball Signees:
Austin Hamm is a catcher for Heritage Christian Academy in Olathe, Kan. He hit .569 with a .613 on base percentage and 1.154 slugging percentage for the Chargers. He had ten home runs, 36 RBI and scored 26 runs in 20 games as he led Heritage Christian to the KSHSAA Class 2-1A State Tournament for the first time in school history.
Patryk Hernandez is a first baseman from Blue Valley HS in Stilwell, Kan. He hit .414 with 12 doubles on the way to second-team All-State and first-team All-Eastern Kansas League honors. He was a part of back to back KSHSAA Class 6A State Championship teams as a sophomore and junior.
Zach Olson is a right handed pitcher from Lee’s Summit West HS. He appeared in five games for the Titans as they went 25-5 on the season. He had a 4.20 ERA and held opponents to just a .211 batting average. He was an Academic All-State selection as a senior.
Brogen Richardson is a right handed pitcher/infielder from Salina Central HS. He hit .429 with a .492 on base percentage and .696 slugging percentage as a senior. He had 17 RBI in 18 games for the Mustangs. He had 18 strike outs in 12.1 innings on the mound as a senior.
Mike Brown is a right handed pitcher that spent the last two years at Hutchinson CC. He was 5-1 with a 4.91 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 55.0 innings for the Blue Dragons last year. He was 5-4 with a 4.92 ERA and 64 strikeouts on his way to All-Jayhawk West honorable mention honors as a freshman. He redshirted his first year at Neb.-Omaha and is a graduate of Millard South HS in Omaha, Neb.
Bill Cain was a right handed pitcher at State Fair CC last season. He went 6-3 with a 2.95 ERA in 15 appearances with six starts. He struck out 69 while walking only 23 and had three complete games in his six starts. He had a complete game six hit shutout of Crowder College with ten strikeouts and no walks. He was 4-1 with 36 strikeouts in 27.1 innings as a freshman at Dodge City CC. He graduated from Oak Grove HS in Oak Grove, Mo.
Coleton Crisp is a right handed pitcher that is transferring from Barton CC. He had a 1.96 ERA in 23 appearances with a two saves for Barton CC as a sophomore. He recorded 42 strikeouts in 46.0 innings while allowing just six walks for the Cougars. He was 1-1 with a save and 28 strikeouts in 24.0 innings as a freshman at Allen CC in 2018. He is a graduate of Remington HS in Whitewater, Kan.
Jack Maki is an infielder/right handed pitcher from Butler CC. He his .291 with a .430 on base percentage in 36 games as a hitter. He went 4-1 on the mound with a team best 2.49 ERA in nine appearances with two starts. He had 17 strike outs in 21.2 innings pitched. He graduated from Andover HS.
Javier Pena is a middle infielder that is transferring to Emporia State from Butler CC. He hit .342 with a .486 on base percentage and .668 slugging percentage as a sophomore for the Grizzlies. He had a team high 14 home runs and 53 RBI last season. As a freshman he hit .395 with 16 homers and 61 RBI on his way to second-team All-Jayhawk Conference honors. He is a graduate of Shawnee Mission Northwest HS.
