Emporia will be seeing an abundance of construction projects this year according to City Manager Mark McAnarney’s city updates.
With the recent completion of several long-running projects in the Emporia area, including the new splash pad at Peter Pan Park, which McAnarney says is a great addition to Emporia’s park system, more local projects are nearing completion as well. McAnarney took time to discuss the progress of construction on the new water tower at the intersection of Warren Way and Penny Lane.
According to McAnarney construction is planned to conclude near the end of July.
Another project in the works is a multi-million dollar sewer relining and point repair project in downtown Emporia. McAnarney says that project will take quite some time, however, it is necessary.
Other ongoing projects include roadwork on 12th avenue which is currently scheduled for completion by the end of June. McAnarney says this project has been needed for a while and has been at the top of the list of projects for quite some time.
Additional work is ongoing at the Wastewater Treatment Plant to help meet new regulations and is expected to be completed by the end of June. Additionally, city staff are working to evaluate the full scope of impact to the city from recent rainfall in May.
