There will be no primary election this year despite a flurry of filing announcements which came in ahead of the filing and withdrawal deadline Monday.
Amongst the numerous filings Monday, another newcomer has stated their intentions to run for a position on the Emporia School Board. Leslie Seeley officially filed for a seat on the board, just ahead of the official deadline at noon.
Seeley now joins the likes of incumbents Mallory Koci, Grant Riles and Art Guttierez who have filed for re-election.
She also joins fellow newcomers Jeremy Dorsey and Jeff Lutes in looking for their first term on the board. Seeley’s filing follows a slew of other announcements from earlier Monday, but there weren’t enough to force a primary as County Clerk Tammy Vopat explains.
Additional area filings include:
*Brian Shank, Neosho Rapids City Council
*Dallas Shepherd, Neosho Rapids City Council
*Kenny Hamman, Hartford Mayor
*Jennifer Hamman, Hartford City Council
*Charles Eastman, Allen Mayor. Eastman indicated this was his 40th year to file for Allen Mayor.
*Marc Atchison, Reading City Council
*Amanda Bess, USD 252 position 1
*Gene Windle, USD 252 position 1
*James Cole D Cassity, USD 252 Position 1
There are still a number of local offices where no one has announced candidacy including mayoral vacancies in Admire, Neosho Rapids, and Olpe. If no one files to run for office in these positions, a write-in option will be available on the ballot where anyone’s name can be thrown in. Vopat adds that even if a write-in candidate wins, they can decline the position.
KVOE has reached out to Seeley for comment.
