Another incumbent has filed for re-election to the Emporia School Board.
Mallory Koci filed with the Lyon County Election Office Wednesday. Koci came on to the board last year to fill the vacancy left by longtime school board member Mike Hellebert who stepped down last July.
Koci says she was driven to serve on the board as she is an individual who truly values service to the community.
Koci adds, her time on the board has given her a great appreciation for the educational system as a whole. If re-elected this would be Koci’s first full term as a school board member.
Koci now joins fellow incumbents Art Gutierrez and Grant Riles who have also filed for re-election.
Koci’s filing also follows the announcements of newcomers Jeff Lutes and Jeremy Dorsey. Additional filings Thursday include Henry Freeman for Bushong City Council, Yvonne Gardner for Hartford City Council Position 5, Gary Heine for USD 251 Position 1, Lynn McAllister for USD 251 Position 2, Erin Calhoun-Piper for USD 251 Position 3 and Thomas Cushing for USD 251 Position 7. Other recent filers include Malonne Davies for Reading City Council.
So far, not enough candidates have filed to force a primary election with any of the school board, city council or city commission races.
The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is June 3. For more information about Lyon County positions or the filing process, go online to www.lyoncounty.org, click on “Elections” under the Government drop-down tab and scroll down to the 2019 Election Information header.
