Additional budget requests came before Lyon County Commissioners during their weekly action session Thursday morning.
The first request came from Trudy Hutchinson of Hetlinger Developmental Services for a total of $36,500. Heltinger provides a number of services for individuals with developmental disabilities.
These services include onsite work programs, an enrichment program and employment services. The second budget request came from SOS who are seeking $21,000 for 2020.
According to representatives in attendance, SOS is looking to broaden its horizon when it comes to human trafficking programs. An example of this effort was displayed this spring as SOS provided human trafficking prevention training for Emporia High School and Chase County High School students.
At this time there are no solid plans on what these additional programs may entail, however, Dena Russel of SOS tells KVOE News the bulk will be focused on prevention.
Both agencies requests were level with the requests from 2018.
In other business, commissioners approved the fairgrounds TULIP application. TULIP is a revolving insurance policy offered to individuals seeking to rent any of the buildings located at the Lyon County Fairgrounds.
According to Lyon County Controller Dan Williams, when it comes to renting a building, insurance is required to do so. He explains renters essentially have two options for this.
The cost of TULIP is $100 and according to Williams there has not been a claim made on the policy in the past, however, they did see a significant number of individuals utilize the option just last year. The commission pays in $2,000 yearly for the policy and receive $100 back each time it is utilized.
Williams tells KVOE News last year the $2,000 was fully utilized and required the commission to add additional funds for the policy.
Also during the meeting commissioners approved BG Consultants to proceed with the issuance and publication of documents for the Lyon County Jail’s chiller and hot water tank replacement project. The total cost of the project is currently pending.
Four executive sessions also took place. Commissioners will reconvene next Thursday at 8 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
