Flooding continues across parts of the KVOE listening area, but the good news is the floodwaters are subsiding.
Flooding has officially ended on the Cottonwood at Emporia. The river went below the 20-foot flood stage shortly after midnight.
Floodwaters are lowering on the Neosho at Neosho Rapids, but the river is still better than two feet above flood stage. The current reading is 24.39 feet, above flood stage of 22. The river should go below flood stage around noon Saturday.
Further downstream, floodwaters will remain high at Burlington and LeRoy until the Army Corps of Engineers ends its special releases from John Redmond Reservoir. Releases are around 21,700 cubic feet of water per second. This has the Neosho at Burlington at around 28.74 feet, above flood stage of 27 feet, and the Neosho at LeRoy at 28.25 feet, above flood stage of 23 feet. Both gauges are in flood warnings until further notice.

Numerous county road closures remain in effect for Chase, Coffey and Greenwood counties. Flooding and pavement repair adjustments continue on Kansas Highway 58 between Gridley and LeRoy. The highway is one-lane traffic between Planter and the LeRoy city limits until further notice due to shoulder repair. It’s also one-lane traffic between Oxen and Planter because of water over the highway.
Flooding has shut down a lot of recreation areas at area lakes, and the Army Corps of Engineers announced Wednesday it closing all sites at Outlet Park until June 16 due to flooding. Outlet Beach is closed until further notice. All sites at Turkey Point and Arrow Rock are closed through June, and Coeur d’Alene sites 9-32 are also closed until the end of June.
