As we make our way through this perilous allergy season, Dr. Jen has some helpful advice for those who suffer the pains of seasonal allergies.
Dr. Jennifer Thomas is a Health & Human Performance Professor at Emporia State University, and she has provided some advice to alleviate the stresses of dealing with allergies. One thing that Dr. Jen recommends that many choose not to do is to visit a physician.
Some preventative actions can be taken on your daily routine to limit exposure to allergens including:
- Taking off your shoes before you walk into your home.
- Washing your bed sheets in hot water weekly.
- Vacuuming frequently with a HEPA filter.
- Keeping your windows closed, even in warm weather.
- Keeping pets out of the bedroom.
There are certain things that you can eat to aid in the fight against allergens. Dr. Jen suggests foods high in omega-3 fatty acids as well as foods that act as natural decongestants.
