Newman Regional Health (NRH) has implemented a new piece of technology to help take down the language barrier between physicians and patients who do not speak English.
A new video service is being utilized by the staff at Newman Regional as a method of interpretation for those who require medical attention but may not speak English. Lucas Markowitz of NRH describes the service as similar to an iPhone’s FaceTime feature.
NRH has been using Proprio Language Service for over-the-phone translations until they recently added this video translation service. Along with the phone service, NRH utilized bilingual staff members or English-speaking family members to aid in translation efforts.
The real-time video interpreting service is increasing the efficiency of breaking down language barriers by being an interactive display that all parties can speak to. The program has been active for a month now and has received great feedback, as Markowitz claims.
