Emporia Highs Gentry Scheve finished in 2nd place after a play-off at the 5A State golf tournament played Wednesday in Dodge City.
Scheve finished his 18 holes with a 4 under par 67. Goddard Eisenhowers Tyler Trudo would also finish with a 67. Trudo won on the first play-off hole to take medalist honors.
Scheve says finishing 2nd is not a huge disappointment.
Also for Emporia High Caleb Schmidt shot a 77, Connor Hoyt a 83 and Garyn Fischer and Brooks Sauder shot 85s.
As a team Emporia High finished in 8th place with a 312. Andover Central took team honors with a 293.
Gentry Scheve was also named the Centennial League golfer of the year.
The 3A State tournament was played at the Emporia Golf Course. Burlingtons Jace Watkins finished in 5th place after a play-off. He was tied for 2nd place at plus 6 after regulation play. Sabetha won the team championship.
At the 1A Tournament in Salina, Olpe finished in 5th place. Wylie Redeker had the low score for Olpe, finishing in a tie for 11th place with an 80.
