Despite high winds and heavy rainfall Saturday, the Flatland Cruisers Car Show took place in downtown Emporia.
Collectors and car enthusiasts alike filled commercial street for the annual event. The show is put on by the Flatland Cruisers and raises money to support scholarships for students of Flint Hills Technical College.
Emporia Flatland Cruisers secretary Sherry Jones tells KVOE News those scholarships represent an investment in the next generation of car owners and enthusiasts.
Although attendance was down slightly from years past due to the inclimate weather, individuals still came from near and far to take part in the event. This included John Barr of Clarinda, Iowa who drove his 1971 Dodge Charger Super Bee over 200 miles to attend the show.
Barr says he loves any opportunity to take out one of his numerous hot rods as he believes it can help spark a passion in others to learn more about classic cars.
Along with the impressive selection of classic vehicles, a silent auction and raffle also took place. Trophies were also awarded to those in attendance in a variety of categories.
Totals from the event are pending. Photos are online at KVOE.com.
