For the first time in 14 years the Emporia High softball team is headed to State.
The Lady Spartans out scored Basehor-Linwood 6-2 in 9 innings to win the regional championship game. Emporia High scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning and held onto the lead until Basehor-Linwood tied the game in the bottom of the 7th. Emporia High won the game scoring 4 runs in the top of the 9th. 3 of the runs scored on a single by Payten Redeker and an error. Coach Troy Chapman is happy to be headed to State.
The Lady Spartans advanced to the Championship game with a 14-0 win over Pittsburg. They scored 13 of the runs in the 1st inning. Emporia High will take a 15-6 record into next weeks 5A State softball tournament to be played at Maize.
