Candidate lists for the upcoming election continue to fill out, although not enough candidates have filed to set up a primary election in August.
Local not-for-profit attorney Jeremy Dorsey has filed for the USD 253 Emporia Board of Education. He says the main issue facing the district is reflected in a $78 million facility improvement bond that’s now on the ballot Sept. 5.
Dorsey joins incumbents Art Gutierrez and Grant Riles along with Jeff Lutes as candidates. Incumbent Mallory Koci has not announced whether she plans to file for re-election.
Also this week, Larry Birk filed for Americus City Council, joining Nicolette Nuessen as candidates for that board. Kyle Cole, meanwhile, is the first candidate to file for Olpe City Council.
School board, city commission and city council positions are up for election this year. The filing and withdrawal deadline is June 3.
