An Emporia man received medical treatment after a crash east of town Monday.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says deputies and emergency crews from Emporia, Hartford-Neosho Rapids and Reading responded to the 2200 block of Road 175 after a hazardous materials call shortly after 1 pm. Authorities found a box truck owned by Burnham Basement and Foundation Repair had left the road and drove into a creek.
Investigators say the truck was towing a trailer, which unhitched and separated shortly before the wreck. Safety chains attached to the truck were unable to keep it under control, so both it and the trailer went into the creek.
The truck was leaking fuel when authorities arrived. The Emporia-Lyon County Hazmat team handled the fuel spill.
The driver, 22-year-old Xavier Robles of Emporia, was taken by private vehicle to Newman Regional Health.
