Dirty Kanza week is just around the corner and organizers are confident this year will be the biggest and best so far.
Along with the DK XL and high school races added last year, this year’s list of races will again include the 25, 50, 100 and traditional 200-mile rides. Activities will officially begin on Thursday, May 30th with the annual “All Things Gravel” Outdoor Expo which has doubled in size according to organizer Lelan Dains.
Dains says a big part of the growth is a change which was made to the expo’s original format.
The expo will include bike demos for individuals to try as well as Kid Kanza, the family-friendly zone with activities for all children. Along with the growth of the expo the DK itself will be growing in size as Dains and fellow organizer Jim Cummins were proud to announce that a combined 3,000 riders across each distance will be taking place.
Cummins adds for the first time in Dirty Kanza history:
This year will also see a change in the route for the DK as riders will be heading north towards Wabaunsee County. A concern which some may have, however, is the condition of roadways and paths after the heavy amount of rainfall which has impacted the KVOE listening area recently.
Cummins says not to worry as they already have contingency plans in motion and will have eyes on the ground to assist riders if needed. For more information and a full schedule of Dirty Kanza, events visit Dirtykanza.com.
