Evaluations are currently underway by the Lyon County Highway Department for repairs to county roads damaged during last week’s rainfall.
Assistant County Engineer Jim Brull says they do not currently have a full scope of just how much work will be needed. Over 30 roads and intersections were closed last week due to the high level of precipitation, those roads all remain closed at last word.
Brull says once work begins it could take a few months to repair the damage as repairing a gravel road can be either an easy or extensive process depending on the severity of the damage.
With more rainfall and chances of thunderstorms in the forecast through the middle of the week, Brull tells KVOE News it is actually a positive that work has yet to begin. He explains any new repairs could potentially be washed away by this week’s forecasted rainfall.
Essentially the county would then have to replace gravel and conduct repairs on the same roads twice. KVOE will keep you updated on developments.
The following roads remain closed as of last word.
Road 150 from Hwy 99 East to Road M (This is a Low Maintenance Road)
Road D North of Road 150
Road E North of Road 150
Road G South of Road 160
Road G5 South of Road 160
