Emporia State closed out the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a meet record and two Conference Championships.
The mens’ 4 x 400 relay team of Brandon Rhone, Hayden Goodpaster, Parker Evans, and Luke Stenzel combined to score 24 of Emporia State’s 33 points. They ran an MIAA meet record 3:09.56 in capturing the 4x400m relay title for the third time in the last four years.
In the men’s individual 400 meters: Stenzel was 3rd; Evans was 4th; and Goodpaster was 6th.
In the mens’ 400 meter hurdles: Wyatt Seidel placed 6th; and Davion Scott ran 8th.
Jared Reinke was 6th in the 800m.
Rhone, Tanner Raubenstine, Malcolm Dade and Jordan Reed 8th in the 4x100m relay.
Madison Runnion placed 4th, and Clara Eilert 8th, in the womens’ high jump.
The women’s 4x400m relay team of Leah Nelson, Brianna Schmitz, Jazmin Williams, and Kelsey Graber finished 4th.
Nelson finished 6th in the 800m.
Williams joined Crystal Cook, Hannah Shield and Jordyn Harmon to place 7thin the 4x100m relay.
Shield placed 6th in the 100m and 7th in the 200m.
Madelyn Hayes had a personal best, and provisional qualifying mark, to place 7th in the javelin.
On Saturday, Brianna Schmitz claimed the womens’ heptathlon in becoming just the 2nd ESU Track and Field athlete to eclipse the 5,000-point barrier.
Williams was 2nd in the women’s long jump.
As a team, the women finished 8th and the men 9th.
The Hornets will try to improve on their provisional marks next weekend at the Sam Williams Qualifier at Witten Track/Welch Stadium.
