Emporia High School now has a new principal following a special meeting of the USD 253 Board of Education Friday morning.
EHS Associate Principal Dathan Fischer has been chosen to lead the high school following the announcement last month that current principal Dr. Britton Hart will be stepping down at the end of this year. Fischer has been with Emporia Public Schools for the past 15 years serving in numerous capacities including as a teacher and building principal.
According to a press release from the district, Fischer has received an abundance of support from district staff, students and administrators for the position. He says over the years he has been blessed to have great mentors who have helped guide him to this point.
This year, Fischer was recognized as the 2019 Kansas Association of Secondary School Principals Assistant Principal of the Year. Superintendent Kevin Case says Fischer possesses numerous attributes which will serve him greatly in his new position.
Along with being an employee of the district for the past 15 years, Fischer is also an Emporia State Graduate where he received both his bachelor’s degree in elementary education and his master’s degree in educational administration. Fischer will officially assume his new role effective July 1.
With his appointment to principal, the search for a new EHS Assistant Principal is currently underway.
