The Emporia State baseball team team out scored Northeastern State 9-6 Sunday, winning the series 2 games to 1.
Brian Grove hit a 2 run home run in the 5th to break a 1-1 tie and give the Hornets the lead for good. Emporia State scored 3 more runs in the 6th on 2 bases loaded walks and a pass ball. They added 3 more runs in the 9th on a Tyrus Barclay single and Tucker Perkins drove in 2 runs with a double.
With the win the Hornets have secured a spot in the MIAA tournament that will be played May 9th thru the 12th in Pittsburg. The Hornets remain tied for 3rd place in the MIAA standings with Central Oklahoma.
The non-conference game at Pittsburg State scheduled for Tuesday has been cancelled and will not be made up. The Hornets will host Northwest Missouri State in the final 3 game series of the regular season beginning Friday.
