It took several days, but issues with Lyon County’s text-to-911 service have been resolved.
Issues developed Thursday, when a test showed the system asked texters for an emergency address but later shut down the conversation with no local dispatchers informed of the dialogue.
Local officials have not been told why the issues started. AT&T and Motorola have been working to resolve the problems, according to the Kansas 911 Coordinating Council.
Text-to-911 gives residents an extra option for reporting emergencies, especially in cases where phone calls may be dangerous for the reporting person. The longstanding option of calling 911 is still available.
