You can forgive Dynamic Discs owner and Glass Blown Open tournament organizer Jeremy Rusco if he just can’t keep smiling the next few days.
Over 1,600 disc golfers and another 900 people from 47 states and 10 countries came to Emporia for the tournament and related festivities. This year’s tourney also used 13 area courses, nine for actual tournament play and the others for different activities.
Rusco says the week set a new high-water mark for the 17-year-old tourney.
Rusco says planning has already started for next year’s tourney and related events.
Paul McBeth won the men’s title, claiming his third trophy, while Catrina Allen claimed her fourth women’s title. Once they sealed the deal, the public activities began with the first-ever Rainwater Razz Round at the Emporia Country Club and the now-traditional GBO Block Party on Commercial Street.
Rusco credited the community for its welcome to the incoming disc golfers. He also thanked the over 150 staff and volunteers for their help in making the event go smoothly.
