A week after fire damaged equipment inside Emporia’s Hostess production plant, the company says full production has resumed.
The Hostess media relations department says donut production resumed Monday, slightly ahead of initial estimates. The company has not said when full production started back up again.
Hostess also says improvements “in both process and equipment” are underway with no disruptions to the production flow.
Fire developed in the donut fryer area shortly after sunrise April 20, going up the north wall and eventually through the roof. A final damage report is still pending, but the fire also damaged as many as four nearby vents before it was put out.
One Emporia firefighter suffered minor injuries. No employees were hurt. All production was halted during and shortly after the fire, but production of other Hostess wares returned to normal less than three hours after the fire developed.
