Some big facility news has been announced by USD 251 North Lyon County this week.
Less than a month after putting the former Reading Elementary property up for sale, the district has a tentative agreement in hand for that building. Superintendent Mike Mathes:
Further details will be announced after the closing process is completed, perhaps as soon as late May. The district had closed the school about a year ago due to ongoing budget pressures, and recently city leaders had asked the district to either put the building up for sale or auction it off.
Separately, the district has reached an agreement for adding security doors at North Lyon County Elementary-Junior High in Americus and Northern Heights High School near Allen. Mathes says this project follows a patron survey from several months ago.
Mathes says this project will also see a remodel of the elementary school office and move that area to the front of the building.
Cost is estimated at around $740,000. KBS Constructors of Topeka won the project. Work will begin May 21 and could end by July 31.
