Lyon County’s text-to-911 service is currently offline.
The Lyon County Emergency Communication Center says dispatchers were told that when somebody texted 911, that person received a bounce-back message telling them to call 911. A test actually revealed another problem: the system asked for an emergency address, but it closed out the conversation saying, “the 911 operator has ended your text session” after a lengthy delay — and with no local 911 operator receiving any messages.
Lyon County is researching the situation and will say when text-to-911 is available again. In the meantime, if you have an emergency, call 911.
