Veterans and students involved in the USD 252 Southern Lyon County Honor Flight have returned home, exhausted but exhilarated.
The two-day trip to Washington, D.C., and back was packed with stops, including many of the military branch memorials, Arlington National Cemetery, the White House, Capitol and Smithsonian Museum.
Olpe student Lauren Broyles made the trip with her grandfather, Bob Robinson. She says it was quality time.
Hartford student Dalen Kistner was on his second Honor Flight, and this one was with his uncle, Chuck Shedd. He says the ability to honor veterans was what got him interested in the trip.
Twenty-five veterans and 22 students made the trip, along with medical staff and district administrators.
The district has two Honor Flight trips every year now, and fundraising is now underway for the fall trip. For more information, call the district office at 620-392-5519 or go online to www.usd252.org.
