The Bunny Hop 5k was jam-packed with eager runners and bunnies on Saturday.
The annual 5k race is a partnership between Riverside Elementary and the Read to Your Bunny Project. Proceeds directed towards funding Read to Your Bunny and towards purchasing books for three giveaways Riverside holds for students every year.
Read to Your Bunny has been around for 12 years and has been doing all kinds of volunteer work for kids. Representative Janice Romeiser explains why literacy is such an important thing for young children.
Events like these build good relations between organizations, but according to Riverside Principal Jared Giffin, the school gets more connected to the community as a result.
Before the race, there were refreshments and a costume contest for kids. The Easter Bunny was also available for kids to take a picture with.
The first-place runner for the men was Asher Delmont with a time of 16:04. First place out of the women was Maureen Smith with a time of 24:18. The race ended up raising just over $3100.
