Thanks to the efforts of three students at Emporia State University, area children living in low-income households will be having a very happy birthday.
On March 25, Bag-a-Birthday, a charitable donation drive conceived by ESU students Delaney Dold, Rachel Castro and Genevieve Lowery, got underway. The mission of the drive is to collect donations of party supplies to give area children of lesser means something they may have never had, a birthday party.
Donation boxes were scattered across the campus of ESU and several businesses throughout Emporia and were collected on April 15. Dold tells KVOE News the response for the drive widely exceeded their expectations.
The goal of the drive is a total of 200 bags of supplies for families to pick up. Dold says not only does she think they will reach this goal, but possibly surpass it as well.
If you would still like to donate to Bag-a-Birthday you may do so by contacting Dold at 794-0973. Requested donations include cake mix, cake tins, balloons and candles. Monetary donations are also accepted.
The bags will be available for pickup on Monday, April 29th at Abundant Harvest located at 1028 Whittier Street in Emporia.
