Several items gained approval as Emporia City Commissioners breezed through the agenda during their action session Wednesday.
Commissioners unanimously awarded a bid to Killough (Kee-Low) Construction Inc. for the 2019 Street Rehabilitation project. Killough was the low bidder coming in at $829,705.23.
The project is budgeted at $870,000 funded out of the Multi-Year Fund. Both Killough and the other bidder, APAC Kansas Inc. Shears Department came in well under the Engineer’s Estimate of $894,222.38.
Word on an official start date for the program is currently pending.
In other business, commissioners also approved the submission of an application for the Emergency Solutions Grant Program through the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation. The city has traditionally submitted the application each year with funds going to benefit qualified agencies.
In year’s past the application has requested around $65,000, however, this year the application is requesting a $40,000 increase for a total of $105,000. The reason for the increase is the addition of Family Promise of the Flint Hills as one of the benefiting agencies along with SOS and Plumb Place.
The breakdown of funds will see both Family Promise and Plumb Place receive $40,000 each and SOS will receive $25,000.
A request from Casa Ramos for a beer garden spanning from Graves Drugs to the 700 block of Commerical for Cinco De Mayo was also approved. Appointment of a new member to the Building Trades Board and two proclamations, one declaring May as Historical Preservation Month and the other proclaiming April 26 as Arbor Day in Emporia, gained approval as well.
The Emporia City Commission will hold a study session next Wednesday inside City Conference Room 1AB. Official start time for that meeting is currently pending.
