The 12th annual Laps 4 Landon fundraiser took place Tuesday evening at Emporia State University’s Welch Stadium. Once again, fundraising went well.
This year’s event raised around $7,000, putting the 12-year total at over $87,000.
All proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation for ongoing work to find a cure for CF, which creates extremely thick mucus that can clog the lungs and obstruct the pancreas of those afflicted.
9:15 pm Tuesday: 12th annual Laps 4 Landon takes place Tuesday evening
The Zola Witten Track at Welch Stadium was hopping Tuesday night as local residents came together in support of a great cause.
Activities were in full swing throughout the evening for the annual Laps 4 Landon fundraiser. For the past 12 years, the yearly event has helped to raise funds to support the Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation.
The event was named after 12-year-old Landon Dody who was diagnosed with CF at birth. CF is a genetic disorder which creates extremely thick mucus that can clog the lungs and obstruct the pancreas of those afflicted.
While the event has been ongoing for 12 years, another individual, 3-year-old Aiden Dreier, and his family have also been honored during the event the past three years. Longtime organizer Dr. Jennifer Thomas says Laps 4 Landon has been so successful because of the caring nature of the local community.
Aaron Dody, Landon’s father, provided the musical entertainment for the evening and took time to speak with KVOE. Dody says along with raising funds to support research the event also allows time to educate local residents on CF.
Alex Dreier, father of Aiden Dreier, says to be a part of the event for the last three years is truly special for his entire family.
Along with walking laps around the track individuals and children also had the opportunity to play games, win prizes, take part in a silent auction and enjoy some homemade barbecue.
Along with members of Dr Thomas’ Strategies in Health and Human Performance class, volunteers also included ESU student-athletes, the ESU Cheer Team, members of ESU’s fraternity and sorority community and friends and family of both the Dody and Dreier families. In the past 12 years, Laps 4 Landon has raised over $80,000 for CF research.
Totals from the event will be announced at a later time.
