Jones Aquatic Center supervisor Jennifer Wegener did a happy dance during the Emporia Recreation Commission monthly meeting.
Wegener danced with glee after the Rec Commission approved new inflatable pool equipment for the Aquatic Center and the Lee Beran Recreation Center indoor pool. The equipment is designed by Wibit and the Rec Commission approved five different components at a cost of nearly $19,000. Wegener tells people what they can expect from the new equipment.
Another company that was considered was Aflex. However, Wibit was chosen over Aflex because it offered a three-year warranty, a wider range of more aesthetically pleasing equipment and Wibit was based in America as opposed to New Zealand.
Also, some youth sports have lowered in numbers of participants. Youth soccer has lowered by about 15% compared to last year and youth softball has lowered by 25% compared to last year. The Commission says that it is a cyclical occurrence.
In other business, the Rec Center will be obtaining a new phone system provided by ValuNet. Total cost for the new system was over $10,000.
