Emporia City Commissioner Becky Smith has officially filed for re-election this year.
Smith was elected to sit on the commission back in 2017. Smith says being a part of the commission has been a new and exciting journey for her the past two years.
During her time on the commission, Smith feels they have made great strides in several areas.
Smith adds the current commission has also done great work to tackle issues surrounding city infrastructure. However, she says as Emporia is no small town there is always work to be done.
Smith also says being a part of the commission requires her to utilize skills outside of her everyday life. She is also grateful for the opportunity to serve as a commissioner as it allows her an opportunity to give back to her community.
Smith is the first city commissioner to file either for election or re-election. The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is June 3rd and if enough candidates file for election the primary election will be held Augst 6th.
