The 2019 Relay for Live has officially kicked off.
Area residents were treated to a special lunch Wednesday at Central Care Cancer Center for the kickoff event. Relay for Life Co-Chair and cancer survivor Cherie Crisp says, much like the actual relay event, the kickoff serves as a celebration for cancer survivors, caregivers and patients and to get residents “pumped up” for the annual relay event.
She says the kickoff provides time for patients who are both done with their treatments or just beginning to relate and share with one another. She says for current patients, interaction with survivors can be very beneficial in their journey.
The lunch included hotdogs, baked beans, chips and a dessert. Along with the food Crisp says those in attendance receive a good dose of positivity which is essential not only during but also after your battle.
This year’s Relay for Life will be taking place Septemeber 14 at the Bowyer Community Building. Leading up to the actual event teams and individuals will be running their own fundraising campaigns.
Crisp says some of the fundraising ideas include selling t-shirts, balloons and even tacos as well as silent auctions. Anyone interested in signing up for Relay for Life may do so at relayforlife.org.
